Vaughan Urges Jacob Bethell to Return to England After Injury

Former England batsman Michael Vaughan has spoken out after Jacob Bethell was ruled out of the Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on May 22. Vaughan urged the young southpaw to consider heading back to England if he is not in RCB's plans for the rest of IPL 2026.

According to RCB skipper Rajat Patidar, Bethell suffered a finger injury which forced his exclusion from the match. Vaughan told Cricbuzz that with the injury and the upcoming England Test against New Zealand on June 4, Bethell should make sure the England selectors get a look at his fitness.

Vaughan Urges Jacob Bethell to Return to England After Injury

"If Jacob Bethell is injured, he should head back to England. The Test match against New Zealand starts on June 4. He should make sure that the England selectors have a look at him," Vaughan said. He added that England has a training camp starting the following week, with Baz McCullum arriving in the UK on Sunday.

Vaughan acknowledged that RCB might want Bethell to stay till the IPL season ends, but he emphasized the importance of the England training camp. "I'm being a bit old school. I know RCB would want him to stay till the end of the IPL season, but if he is not a part of their plans, England have a training camp next week," he explained.

He also recalled that Bethell was in India last year, learning a lot, but this season he has not been as successful and now faces injury concerns. Former India pacer Zaheer Khan later hinted that Bethell may not be ready to take a pay cut after RCB qualified for the playoffs.

Vaughan's advice underscores the clash between IPL commitments and national duties. Bethell now faces a choice between staying with RCB or returning to England to secure his Test future.
