IMA Demands Action Against NTA, Calls for Decentralised NEET UG 2026 Exams After Paper Leak Allegations
🔹 IMA Condemns NEET UG 2026 Paper Leak
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has written to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan condemning the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and demanding strict action against the National Testing Agency (NTA) and everyone involved in the malpractice.
🔹 Demand to Decentralise NEET Examinations
IMA urged the central government to decentralise the conduct of NEET-UG examinations by giving more responsibility to states and Union Territories. The association also stressed the need to restore transparency, fairness, and public trust in the medical entrance examination system.
🔹 Over 22.5 Lakh Students Appeared for NEET UG 2026
More than 22.5 lakh students appeared for NEET-UG 2026 across 551 cities and over 5,500 examination centres nationwide. According to IMA, conducting such a large-scale examination in a single phase using physical question papers has become extremely difficult and increases the chances of future leaks and irregularities.
🔹 IMA Demands Online NEET Exams
The doctors’ body demanded that NEET-UG examinations should be conducted completely in online mode across all states and Union Territories to minimise the risk of paper leaks and examination-related malpractice.
🔹 Call for CBI Investigation and Strict Punishment
IMA also called for:
- A credible and time-bound CBI investigation
- Immediate arrest of all accused individuals
- Fast-track courts for daily hearings
- Strict punishment under laws related to examination fraud
🔹 Support for Students and Parents
The association further requested advanced technological safeguards to prevent similar incidents in the future. It also asked authorities to provide clear updates regarding the re-examination schedule to reduce stress and confusion among students and parents.
In addition, IMA recommended counselling and support systems for affected aspirants.
🔹 “Medical Profession Must Uphold Ethics and Trust”
“The medical profession is built on ethics, trust, and credibility. Therefore, the process of selecting future doctors must uphold these same principles.”
IMA added that repeated controversies surrounding national entrance examinations have badly affected the confidence of students who spend years preparing for medical admissions.
🔹 NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam Date Announced
The letter comes shortly after NTA announced that the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination will be conducted on June 21 following the cancellation of the May 3 examination over allegations of large-scale irregularities and paper leaks.
